Is Sanskrit or Tamil the oldest language in the world?
63Is Sanskrit or tamil the worlds oldest language ?
I believe it is Hebrew ! But I have no evidence to prove it is so...So far the majority of the comments on this post believe it is Tamil with Sanskrit coming a close second
Sir William Jones, speaking to the Asiatic Society in Calcutta (now Kolkata) on February 2, 1786, said:
The Sanskrit language, whatever be its antiquity, is of a wonderful structure; more perfect than the Greek, more copious than the Latin, and more exquisitely refined than either, yet bearing to both of them a stronger affinity, both in the roots of verbs and in the forms of grammar, than could possibly have been produced by accident; so strong, indeed, that no philoger could examine them all three, without believing them to have sprung from some common source which, perhaps, no longer exists.
what is the worlds oldest language ?

Tamil or Sanskrit?
To those who say Tamil: what does tamil means?
And to those who say Sanskrit: what does Sanskrit means?
----------------------
For your consideration:
There is a language called 'Eelon' which you never heard of, and in this language the word 'Skin' and the word 'Snow' have a close relation(think twins). Why? The thing which cover a body(skin) fully is called 'Un'(skin) and the thing which once covered the earth entirely(remember the ice age) is also called, with a slight tonal difference in pronunciation) 'Un'(snow).
This simply prooves that the 'Eelon' language was spoken when the earth was covered entirely by ice.(ice age).
Also. Did you know the oldest potsherd(pottery) which dates back to 19,000+- to 21,000+- is found in Kangla, Kangleipak, according to a Proceedings of the National Conference on Luminescence and its Applications
(NCLA -2009) February 19-21, 2009.

No offence to anyone. But to make you understand that some things are said but truths are hidden for some unknown reason.
I PROUD THAT I'M AN INDIAN GIRL
Dear friends it can not be Tamil and stop putting imaginary info like Tamil dates back to 10000. It is 2012AD and if languages originated around 5000BC still its only 7000years. And those who say that Aryans were Dravidian, you guys post without knowledge of anthropology.Study it first.
As for the oldest language, think people!! Rigveda was completed within 1200BC.Then imagine when it could have been started. An extreme complex and pure book like Rigveda could not be written in a language which was just created. It must have been structured, practiced and improved over a much longer period of time.and INCIDENTALLY it was composed in the north-western regions of India where Aryans are said to have camped. Now what we say temples were 'Mandira' in Sanskrit and were the place of education i.e. The Ashrams.
Now for those who says Aryans are Dravidian you may be interested to know that first PROPER CIVILIZATION in India is known to be Indus-valley(4000BC)whereas south-Indian temples were built around after some population from Indus-valley migrated to the tapti river valley taking 'Linga puja(shivalinga)' with them. And also the fact that a great difference lies between Aryan and Dravidian gods. The Dravidian worship the masculine(lord Balaji for example) but the Aryan worship the feminine(goddess Kali for e.g.).
Now Hebrew language is attested around 1000BC, 700-500 years younger than the attestation of Vedic Sanskrit. The Bible whereas was assembled around 400AD only.
But the most important fact should be the cultural complexity noticed as that is the mark of practice of a particular civilization. The Vedas are filled with complex knowledge on vivid fields of human aspects and knowledge that can only be obtained by researches and intelligence practiced over a length of time.Even pyramid structures are one of the ancient 'energy center' symbols of Rigveda(proved

http://www.vaastuinternational.com/pyramids2.html ).
As for those who say Sanskrit, Indus-valley and Mesopotamia were not connected, please read this
http://www.indoeurohome.com/Meluhha-Dilmun.html
Now due to disasters and ruining of written materials conflicts may arise but surely it is not Tamil.
tamil is oldest language. i sure that.
''VAZHGA TAMILNADU VAZHGA TAMIL''
I proud to be a tamilan
Sanskrit is a Dravidian Origin - Vedic Hymns are all in dravidian consonant - only the south indians can pronounce them & NO other language in the world has such nasal pronounciation !!. Classical sankrit is derived from Vedic sanskrit.
These hymns are from dravidian tribes passed on from generation to generation. Dravidian kingdoms had extensive trade contacts with Greek, Roman, Egyptian, Persian empires, which explains the common words across these languages.
Historical Evidences:
South Indian temple inscription - 18 centuries back - "Nagas gave sanskrit - the language of the devas - to the Aryas". Nagas are dravidians living next door in Nagapattinam & aryas are the Noble men. thats why you have aryas or brahmins in all communities. Sorry to bust the theory - no aryan race !!
Megasthenes - goes to Patliputra & then goes all the way to the Pandian Kingdom - Madurai. He calls Madurai as Mathura - the land of krishna, explains the caste system (yes, caste system is a dravidian origin!!), talks about a story like Iliad/Troy but much longer in length (Ramayana is the Victor's version, Troy is the Lanka version of Ramayana). So there was NO sanskrit in Patliputra but it existed in the Pandian Kingdom during 300 bc !! Read Indica for the details.
Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Jainism & Buddhism (23rd Thirthankara is Buddha), all originate in Karnataka/ dravidian kingdoms !!
Jain texts written 1000s of years back say that Ramayana & Mahabaratam are stories of dravidian Cheiftains in South India. Bharatavarshe is the land from Vindyas to down south Kerala. All cities mentioned in these texts are in south india - Ayothiapattinam, Kansapuram, Madurai (Mathura), Kasipuram, Sanjeevini Hills, Agasthiyar hills, Vindyhas (Himalayas), Cauvery is Ganga, Triveni sangam - Amudha - Saraswati, Bhavani - Yamuna & Cauvery/Ganga, Pandavapura, Gangavathi (origin of cauvery), Ganga Kingdoms (Kannada kings are called Ganga kings, why north kings are NOT known as Ganga kings), Indrapala (Andhra), - are all in south india.
Sanskrit is written on all south indian temples, but not on North temples. North temple priests chant in Hindi & NOT in sanskrit. South temple priests chant only in Sanskrit. Most famous Nepal Hindu temple - Pashupathi nath priests are from Karnataka !! Thailand royal brahmin preist sends his disciples to study sanskrit in Kanchi / South india. Dravidian kings take Sanskrit to all the places in south east asia - Thailand, Indonesia/Bali, Cambodia, etc.. because it is their language & their legacy !!
Hinduism was revived in North after the 700+ yrs of Mughal rule by the RSS leaders. they named all the places - Ayodhya, Mathura etc.. only in 18th century, Kumbh Mela is only a 100+ yr old tradition, etc,. why would a north indian fair skinned person - so called aryan worship dark gods - Shiva, Vishnu, Rama & Krishna !!
thats why there was NO temple found under the Babri Masjid - because it was not the birth place of Lord Rama. It is ayothiapattinam in south India. !!
I would like to say thanks to the guy post under the name "THE TRUE DRAVIDIAN"..I strongly agree his points that tamil is the very oldest language of all..
sure sure sure i will say tamil because its going to far at before 5000bc or before before before........
If we follow Tamil is the oldest language, Why all the God's Praises in Tamil culture are in Sanskrit. We follow only the culture/traditions in between generations and that mostly comes worship. THINK IT
sanskritis oldest
madam please dont think investigate......tamil is the oldest living language......
10000000000000000000000 the world because value.anyone know how to prononce this value.cannot.only one language can.the world greatest and oldest language tamil can prononce.indians call the value as'MAHAYUGAM'.
sanskrit and tamil are two language comming from two different root. europian root is sanskrit ,dravidian root is tamil .these two are not compared then any one . tamil is oldest root in proto dravidian language but sanskrit is mixer language of jews language and dravidian language. brhamins are sixty five percentage jews and iranian mixer people entair in religious work . for ex: chatpawan brhamins genitically jews , namboodhri brhamins are jews after entair india they are intermerried with dravidian nair people.
tamil loan words are many in sanskrit
the palm leaf manuscript are used in south indian dravidian culture its name 'oolai chuvadi'. there are lack of oolaichuvadi discovered in dravidian siddha medical palmleaf manuscript. kerala, karnataka andhra, tamilnadu, like southindian country used oolaichuvadi. these are dravidian country.
so after brhamins entair( oprox bc 2000 to 1500) they learn some dravidian cultural after wrote vedhas in palmleaf. the word vedha root from tamil word "vei-thal ".
Absolutely Tamil
It is the first language in world
In tamil there is only one kagaram but in other there are three kagarams extra.so in order to speak easier they have 3 kagaram extra.this shows others derived from tamil.
Ancient tholkappiuum was born in ki.mu.4 so tamil should be born before that.
In Poranaanoru paadal there is told about Seran ,mahabaratha.
Mahabaratha war was in ki.mu 1432 so poranaanuru paadal shpuld be sing before 3445.
so tamil should be born first.
Tamil has the speciality of reading the ancient sangams, tholkaapium till today but languages don't.other languages like greek have changed but don't tamil.
This concludes that tamil is first born language in world
Hello, all my dear language lovers don't say tamil or sanskrit is oldest don't compare between them, here activity prevailed even when greece didn't exist.ok sanskrit or tamil leave it,and as people of india we should start the drugging of science in both languages because we have found ancient Tamil herbal scripture of 2000 years ago and patanjalis arogya sutra in Sanskrit, please my dear Indians leave the matter of which is old now start finding the ancient scriptures of both languages which is very useful we can find a numerous science in both language,India is the only country which has monsoons, please leave it fighting with each other and let us start to save our numerous science for our generations.
According to scholars the word Hebrew came from the word Apiru which means people who came from or stayed on the that side of the river. in Bible- old testament is also saying that the forefathers came from eastern side.
This word Apiru is the corrupted Tamil word- Appurathu Aru means that side of the river.
Evidences are coming out in supporting and proving the migration of people from southern india to west and northwestern places. Accordingly the the recent carbon dating of excavations found in poompuhar is dated to around 12500 B.C and that of in Indus valley civilization is around 7500B.c.
As per scholars tamil civilization and language was in the highest maturity in all forms around 20000 to 25000B.C and then this civilization started migrating due to natural disasters.
one would say these nonsenes all are in literature but the day is not too far to prove the hidden facts.
Sanskrit was never a spoken language in india by the common man. it is a polished, systematically and artificially coded language of the pre aboriginal langauge spoken in india.
The tamil people's love and respect towards their mother tongue and her incomparable richness will help her to live till the last human being breathes in this world.
Vazhga Vazharga Thamizh.
tamil is one of the oldest and greatest language in the world.guyz u agree?anyone know 1000000000000000000 how to prononce this number?or either any languages can tell is number, can't.only tamil languege can tell.this number we called 'ARTTAM'
TAMIL means ARAVAM(sound).... this is a language that originated when the use of sound to communicate came into existence...
Mad like u only believe like these nonsense. There is lot of evidences coming out now about Tamil. Sanskrit dont even comes near Tamil's rich history.
Defiantly not Hebrew, the languages that nomads in the desert wrote in the caves are a lot more older and closer to Arabic than they are to Hebrew.
still here Sanskrit is still the oldest u guy just need to believe it Tamil came from all u hory beggars cuming into hindustan with your lousy rituals and language btw sanskrit and india rule
ALL SANSKRIT SCOLORS FIRST ANSWER MY QUESTION.
1.ARYAN INVASION THEORY
All scolors agreed aryans were migrants from central asia. before that which language spoken in india.= DRAVIDIAN.
2.ARYANS LANGUAGE
Aryans r migrants or nomodics and illterical language with no grammer=THEY BOUGHT MANY WORDS AND GRAMMER WITH CULTURAL FACTSFROM DRAVIDIANS
3.FORM OF SANSKRIT
Aryans formed a language for literary tradition that is sanskrit.
4.RAMAYANA AND MAHABHARATHA
Here many aryans says their color is white and dravidians color is black.=THEN HOW RAMA AND KRSHNA WERE BLACK IN EPICS. HERE WE CONCLUDE RAMA AND KRI R DRAVIDANS. Aryans got detals from tamils.
5.INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION
Many indus scripts like tamil brami scirpts.= so it is tamil civilization before invasiion of aryans.
6.BRAHUI LANGUAGE
This language is speaking in balucgistan near indus valley.pakistan()IT IS LIKE TAMIL.
7.KUMARI KANDAM OR LEMURIA
MANY TAMIL SCRIPTS SAID LEMURIA AND ITS 49 states.
7.LOST OF BOOKS AND INSCRIPTIONS
Many tamil inscriptions r lost in during tsunami.
LIKEWISE WE CAN SAY MOREE FOR TAMIL....
HIDDEN FACTS
Many politicicians r based on sanskt. so they hide the truth. SO TAMIL IS THE OLDEST LANGUAGE OF INDIA.
Tamil is the oldest language.world will wait and accept.tamil kadavul murugar
Tamil and Sankrit has good history in india sub-con...but the fact is the so called oldest text in tamil has many sanskrit loan word directly or indirectly.
Yes wait for sometime. The remaining truths hided in Indian sub-continent will also come out one by one. Future strongly says its Tamil only.
wait for few days there might be future showing that tamil is not old i think it is sanskrit. there is much of history still left behind which needs to be explored until then let it be sanskrit
Why do the facts by historian's that lived closer to the earlier records differ from modern historians and acheologists of today? Would you rather beleive historians of ancient worlds, or modern so-called scientists with all the errors? are not eye-witnesses closer to the facts?......
Tamil (?????, tami?, [t??m??] ?) is a Dravidian language spoken predominantly by Tamil people of the Indian subcontinent. It has official status in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and in the Indian union territory of Pondicherry. Tamil is also an official language of Sri Lanka and Singapore. It is one of the 22 scheduled languages of India and the first Indian language to be declared as a classical language by the government of India in 2004. Tamil is also spoken by significant minorities in Malaysia and Mauritius as well as emigrant communities around the world.[1]
Tamil is one of the longest surviving classical languages in the world.[6][7] It has been described as "the only language of contemporary India which is recognizably continuous with a classical past"[8] and having "one of the richest literatures in the world".[9] Tamil literature has existed for over 2000 years.[10] The earliest epigraphic records found on rock edicts and hero stones date from around the 3rd century BCE.[11] The earliest period of Tamil literature, Sangam literature, is dated from the 300 BCE – 300 CE.[12][13] Tamil language inscriptions written c. 1st century BCE and 2nd century CE have been discovered in Egypt, Sri Lanka and Thailand.[14] The two earliest manuscripts from India,[15][16] to be acknowledged and registered by UNESCO Memory of the World register in 1997 and 2005 were in Tamil.[17] More than 55% of the epigraphical inscriptions (about 55,000) found by the Archaeological Survey of India are in the Tamil language.[18] According to a 2001 survey, there were 1,863 newspapers published in Tamil, of which 353 were dailies.[19] It has the oldest extant literature amongst other Dravidian languages.[6] The variety and quality of classical Tamil literature has led to its being described as "one of the great classical traditions and literatures of the world".[20]
recently found Poompuhar- an submerged city of olden day- near Nagapattinam district of Tamilnadu- few kms into sea was dated as 10,000 years old by Graham hancock. City is very much older than even harrapa... this means culture to the whole world is from TAMIL speaking people. A naturally derived language ... A person who knows Tamil and other language can feel the artificial nature of other languages
You are absolutely correct Pt. Pravin,
Also, just a small point....
Carbon is a mineral and diamond is a crystal. If my teacher told me diamond is a stone (and I found out it is not), I would first change my teacher - the diamond is more valuable.
What do you mean by genetic difference data? Generaly humans are the same. The only differences are the geographic and climatic effects that change our genetics on a very shallow level over 100's and 1000's of years - the basic makeup is the same and this has an origin - our first human parents. This is logical and well documented fact - even in india.
As you may know, diamond has allotropic properties of carbon; where the carbon atoms are arranged in a variation of the face-centered cubic crystal structure called a diamond lattice. Diamonds form with great forces and power. Humans have also been formed by great forces and power. Where this power comes from is what is more important. Every diamond may be a little different, but it is still a diamond and has an origin. In the same way, we are all human and have an origin. No one is greater and no one is lesser. We are just different due to geographic and climatic data.
Now, we are supposed to be discussing the origin of human languages. Do you think it is logical that the forces involved in producing our first parents and giving them a tongue to speak with, a voice box and lips and mouth to form words with and express thoughts of the mind and feelings of the heart, gave our first human parents a very first language to speak with?
Please let me know if you think this is logical enough.
Your qualification is way understand things properly, means what you have leant from your teachers. some authentic persons say about that the stone is Diamond then we believe that the stone is dimond, without that we can't differentiate it from other stones. find the genetic difference data of creatures i have sited. only those persons laughs who can't understand things. one person can't confirm it only by reading my post.
if one walks away without an argument, it doesn't mean he lost, it simply means he wishes to spend his time to help people who are more logical.
You say collect data from all sources but you only look at India and then you talk about genetic differences that have been affected by geography and climate but we are all humans that come from one human parents. This is scientific. Have you ever studied the history of planet earth taking into account history, science, etymology, medicine, law, mathematics and all the major religions of the wolrd all put together and revised your theories? Because as a budding scholar you will be very surprised to know that your data is obsolete by far. There is so much you do not know about the world you live in. You are not alone, many are on this path. People who are not scholars know more than even this. I have many facts that your theories do not even touch the tip of and make your theories very laughable. I will share some with you very soon.
I ma not tamil but you western people are changing history everyday and I am visiting tamilnadu for last 10 years and have practical first hand experience. It is not mythology but go to genetic differences between indo-euroreans and africans more than 100000 year and difference between indain and european is only 40,000 years. 120,000 year ago only people of two area suvived including some common animals like lions and elephants both are genetically more than 100,000 years apart; of indian subcontinent and african area. don't be pure historian. collect data from all sources than comment. i am scientist, lawyer and sanskrit scholar too.
40,000 year difference tell that all asians, middle east and European migrated from current Pakistan base of DEOSAI plateau which is the second highest and fertile in the world but first in southern part. Tamil may be common language for speaking and sanskrit in construction phase for thousand years. THAT MEANS ALL OTHER LANGUAGES OF ORIGINATED FROM SANSKRT AND CHINESE FROM BRAHMI SCRIPT IT-SELF
Exactly!!.......Tamils are too busy looking at the mythological history as fact......Tamils who reason like that are NOT "dumb as rocks" - as even rocks can be dated back - but Tamils are too busy in mythological data. They must be the worlds oldest dreamers!
Wow, some of you are just plain STUPID. You people who say Tamil are dumb as rocks.
Sumerian is by far the oldest spoken language. Sumerian was first recorded in 3900 BC. Tamil, 500 BC
Oh no!...Not Mythology again!!!....This data does not match Archeology, Etymology, History or even Science. Pure imagination!
use your common sense, tamil is always associated with body language while sanskrit is not. language of earlier stage of human development can be particular sonud with aparticular body language, tamil shows direct relation with the said mechanism while sanskrit is most perfect language till date, IT show how developed human were at that time of moment. one can't sketch a perfect picture without much practice there i believe that sanskrit developed from Tamil therefore Tamil is the oldest language. It may date back to 120,000 years before Matsya Avatar of Lord Vishnu,When our data shows that Land submerged in oceon.
It is a perfect fact that languages from India can not be the oldest because India was not the first civilization on the Earth. Please try and rise above all ignorance and learn about human history first. This goes back before even Egypt. So this rules out Sanskrit and Tamil by far. as all humans come from the same place - our first human parents. This is not and never will be over-ridden by the self portraits of any civilizations individual developement and perceptions. We must try and think outside the little boxes our most recent ancestry has come from and delve deeper into history to resolve the mysteries of time and stop all this nationalistic stupidity, because we are all humans that come from the same place - don't let your eyes deceive you. Anyone who claims to be above these facts are not lovers of truth but are wrapped in self pride. You can fool yourself and try to fool others, but you can't fool God and truth. Be careful as you will be accountable to God and the rest of the human race if you try to assert lies based on self pride.
tamil is the oldest language of all
My fellow Indians, don't fall prey to these linguistic traps on the web. Both Tamil and Sanskrit, the most oldest languages in the world have their origin in our land, India. This pride to be an indian is the greatest honour. What more do we need?

??????? ????? ?????.??? ?????? ??????? ????? ?????. For tamilians who believe tamil
Hi chakravarthiamith..... I cant understand what you are trying to tell. what is Proto Dravidian language....? Is this any language name like that..........? You dont know Brahmi... Tamil Brahmi.....? Dont know the word Tamil, Trimili, Dravidian, Dravida, ...? Dont know all are same.....? Man u will become a wonderful comedian ya.... great......... super.........
Hi barryrutherford, Here some people commenting with different names again and again. I think Cyber-King, Cyber-Man, chakravarthiamith all are same person putting non-sense comments in different names. Please be sure before displaying the comments. Comments should not hurt others beliefs..... please be sure in it......
all these people are mad. oldest ever language is java j2e. gods speak in this language. gods created people and they sopke java j2ee language too. then to serve man god created monkeies and donkies as slaves to serve men and presented them with tamil hebrew sumerian etc as a language for efficient functioning. that is why java j2e is so perfect. Languages spoken by gods. So all must stop this nonsense talk about hebrew coffeebrew tamil ricemill and sumerian akardian as oldest language. It is senseless and meaning less. I the lord of JAVA command all brainless people who claim their languages to be oldest to bow their heads to java, so that i can put some brains in their head.
Oh and let's finish with you Mr "vinayak".....Kannada may have got 8 national prizes, but we are talking international here. Please think a little outside the box!!???....Thank you!?
Oh..., and...Mr "Think"......Congratulations!....Yes you've made it a HAT-TRICK, because iron is also from Latin "Ferrum" that's why the chemical symbol is Fe (and not Ir) on the periodic table. You have proved yourself to be deficient in languages, history and now even science. You must be the weakest link. Please feel free to skip to a less intelligent website!.....bye bye!!!
Also Mr "Think" - Think again! Because Allah is Arabic for "God" it comes from Hebrew (El'ohim) which means Almighty "God". If you have any fear of getting things right, fear GOD and you will make progress.
I think "Think"s name should be "make it up as I go along" because Mary IS NOT FROM "MARI" (WHAT ABSOLUTE NON-SENSE!!). Mary is of Latin origin which literaly meant "drop of the sea". Please don't make things up - And get it right before you present it as this is why everyone is so confused in the first place. Things that sound similar does not make them the same. If you know any history, Mary was born at the time of the Romans NOT the TAMILS!!
hii all...noo dout its kannada.. is the oldest language in the world..and it is a sweet n systematic language for ever..the all languages r derived from kannada only...dats wat it got 8 national prizes..no languge has got this much prizes except kannada...
most of the indian people were told and brought up like sanskrit is divine and mother of all india languages for decades of years. Even most of the thamizhian were brought up like that and are in the believe of sanskrit richness.i think tamil was once spoken through out india and most of the words of all the languages of this world are nothing but corrupted tamil.
iron - in tamil it is called as erumbu or irumbu. the root word is ir or er which means dark or black.
for ex eraman or eravanan.
in europe the word rachel - means lady black in colour.
in tamil al - means some thing hidden, invisible or beneath under.
note tamil god perumal.
Allah - means invisible truth.
If one researches words of world languages u can can notice similarities. all the world languages came from one proto language. that proto language is tamil.
southern india is the homeland for the mankind's first civilization. southern indain climatic pattern suits for easy human breeding whereas other european or russian countries wont suit for human race to breed.
all the people are brothers and sisters and once talked the same language and later due to natural calamities migrated to different regions to to pave way for different languages.
the mother of jesus is mary. mary means beautiful female goat. refer tamil - mari or semmari means beutiful goat in tamil. the word mars -the symbol is goat.
tamil only can tell u the root word and origin.
The oldest language is .....................LOVE................!!!
INDIA IS A COUNTRY OF DIFFERENT LANGUAGES,IF YOU THINK TAMIL OR SANSKRIT WHICH IS OLDER,YOU CAN;T FIND ANSWER TAMIL PEOPLE SAY TAMIL IS MOTHER,IF YOU ASK TO OTHER THEY WILL SAY SANSKRIT.SO DON'T GET CONFUSE BOTH ARE MOTHER OF ALL LANGUAGES,VEDAS,UPANISHADS AND ALL SHASTRAS ARE WRITTEN IN SANSKRIT.SO BELIEVE THAT INDIA HAS THOUGHT MATHEMACTICS TO WHOLE WORLD.BELIEVE THAT SANSKRIT AND TAMIL ARE BOTH EYES OF INDIA.EVEN TAMIL DEPEND SOME WORDS FROM SANSKRIT.BOTH LANGUAGES ARE GREAT,SCIENCES AND ARTS ARE MOSTLY FOUND IN SANSKRIT,SO BELIEVE BOTH LANGUAGES ARE GREAT
Bharanitharan.....What the hell are you talking...Tamil is oldest living language in the world...who the f**k speaks sumerian now?
most of the world language words have their roots in tamil.
For ex: Pyramid - pyra - peru means big in tamil and id- idukadu means place were dead bodies are burried.
Jesus - root word is yesua in greek and root word for yesua is esan which is god in tamil again the root word for esan is e means to give in tamil.
ED -A muslim festival.
as well one can find lot of world place name ends with ur and in germany most of the place names close to river name ends with er or ar i think that is nothing but ar or aru - river in tamil.
All the world languages owes to tamil. tamil is a language which was not developed in years rather it was evolved along with nature as humans beings starts getting civilized. Tamil only can throw light to the world's ancient history. Though the literature facts and archealogical evidence were lost due to nature's fury few intentionally , the tamil language is enough to prove it.
i am sure that the day is not too far to prove to the world with facts.
most probably there was only one language was existed in the world due to some reasons people started moving to different with them the language they were speaking. that ancient proto language is nothing but tamil. Tamil will be heard in till the end of the world.
according to me in all the world languages except tamil if you remove the foreign language loan words then you cannot use that language for communication and it will die.
please excuse me if these comments hurts any bodies feeling and beliefs.
Tamil's language pride is not only form her antiquity but also in her continuity.
Recent inventions have proved that almost 55000 scripts of Sanskrit are Tamil. Tamil is being proved as the Root language of Hebrew too! Lets wait...!
That is why Vedas is not the oldest - Simples!!!
if tamil is the oldest language,if hebrew is the oldest language,if sumerian is the oldest language then why the oldest scriptures on earth "THE VEDAS" was written in SANSKIT language.....why why why....????
prakrit language is the most ancient one ...n u can say that all the languagges of world like urdu, hebrew etc. r derived from sanskrit...jai hind
As far as i see most of people here are just blind believers and for analogical purpose using bread and pizza.
tell me what came first? bread or pizza?
None you fool. It is the wheat.
If bread is persian, pizza is sanskrit, then what is wheat? it must be some predecessor of these language. It is Proto indo iranian language. which was daughter of proto indieuropian language. so mistery solved. Sanskrit dint borrow any words from persian, it is merely a sister language for persian. It is easy to be fool than think and research like a wise guy.
next tamil, let us agree that tamil is oldest language for an instance. i would like to quote. "tamil is oldest known language and was even spoken by cave men. sorry even by old extinct monkeys, and even till date you can see monkeys in india speak tamil. not just in india all over the world" lovely claim. right? Dont try to talk nonsense guys. your parents spent lakhs of rupees on your education. dont make them ashamed by portraying their investment as an investment in drainage. practically Tamil came from another language called Proto dravidian languages and among the more recent languages of india. also, dont try to say we have scientific proof, because all and you are pretty sure you dont have it. old texts claimed to be of tamil was not tamil. because none of we modern tamil experts can also understand one word from those books. because it is PROTO DRAVIDIAN LANGUAGE. Now there are some fools who say there is Homo Dravida, kumari kanda. crap, no evidence only imagination. Most of them are nut cracked cases. may be under influence of some neuro intoxin. Obviously mad people. you want to follow them? By all means, go crack your nuts alongside them.
Come on guys, for people who say Tamil / Sanskrit is oldest language, Tomorrow some software engineer will come down and say C++ is oldest language. Belief is different and truth is different. I might not be a researcher on language but for sure I have sense. Neither Tamil nor Sanskrit nor Hebrew are oldest for a fact. Use simple understanding that one language is evolved or modified form of some pre existent language. As of now we can trace existent languages in this way. I am tracing backwards
Sanskrit
Vedic Sanskrit (you already know)
Indo Aryan language (during Indus valley civilization)
Indo Iranian language (during meso era)
Indo European language (during ice age)
Proto language (early communication to origin of Homo sapiens from Africa)
So Sanskrit may be mother of all Indian languages except Tamil, but indo European diverged to many other branches which eventually gave Hellenic (Great great grandmother of Greek) Italic (Great great grandmother mother of Roman) Germanic (Great great grandmother mother English) etc. So Sanskrit does not have any direct ancestry to other branches. So Sanskrit will be sister for Greek or Germanic languages. Obviously most of the people here are born to fight like dogs than use intellect and discover. Just like indo Iranian language family there is another family
Modern Tamil (later stages)
Proto Tamil (during migration to south)
Proto Dravidian language (during Indus valley civilization)
Proto Austro Asiatic language (during ice age and meso era)
Proto language (early communication to origin of Homo sapiens from Africa)
Coming to timelines, In Indus valley civilization people spoke an archaic Proto Dravidian language. If a Tamilian is made to listen to it, he might not even understand a single word. Upon invasion Indo Aryan speaking war centered people the proto Dravidians migrated further southeast. However there was a brief period in this time when both coexisted for and Vedas were taking form. Vedic Sanskrit was developed as a reason of melting of both cultures. At this point of time Indus valley had two languages. Vedic Sanskrit and Proto Dravidian language (Tamil was still unborn). Due to the clashes in nomadic warloving sacrificial oriented Aryan culture and settled war phobic cultivation centric Indus valley culture more Dravidians started southward movement, Proto Tamil was formed during this southward movement and tribes separated to several directions in search of better settling place. Until then there was no Tamil. Ultimately as movement of Dravidians to complete south completely isolated Tamil resulting in each tribe developing dialects of proto Tamil by time. So Kannada and Telugu are reminiscent of that old proto Tamil where you can see lot of Sanskrit mixture. In a way we can conclude modern Tamil spoken in TN today is latest language in ancient India. Kannada and Telugu were formed when Migrating Dravidians were still on the way to reach modern TN. Which puts Telugu then Kannada was developed then Tamil.
So now question remains between Sanskrit and hebrew. Tamil ruled out.
Okay, okay,....I'll take it back...But validity is a very important ingredient in proof and if we don't share the evidence, comments become meaningless. I would be happy to read proof if it presents itself. I didn't mean to offend - I'm sorry.
Yeah it probably is!.....computer programs are very prone to viruses!....lol
Sanskrit is the mother of all the languages.. And its is the most precise language which is even suitable for computer programming!
Tamil is the Oldest! :)
Sanskarit is a olest language in the world becose it is spoken by raja baali in satyug. And the time passed of satyug is 1000000 year
The Mediterranean Peoples (Dravidians)
(Extracts from ‘The Original Indians â€" An Enquiry’ by Dr. A. Desai)
How the Mediterranean people came to be called Dravidians makes interesting story. The Pre-Hellenistic Lycians of Asi Minor, who where probably the Mediterranean stock called themselves Trimmili. Another tribe of this branch in the island of Crete was known by the name Dr(a)mil or Dr(a)miz. In ancient Sanskrit writings we find the terms Dramili and Dravidi, and then Dravida which referred to the southern portion of India.
South India was known to the ancient Greek and Roman geographers as Damirica or Limurike. Periplus Maris Erithroei (Periplus of the Eritrean Sea) in the second or third century AD described the maritime route followed by Greek ships sailing to the South Indian ports: “Then follow Naoura and Tundis, the first marts of Limurike and after these Mouziris and Nelkunda, the seats of government.â€
Dramila, Dravida and Damirica indicated the territory. Then it was applied to the people living in the territory and the language they spoke, in the local parlance Tamil and Tamil Nadu or Tamilakam.
-----------------------
The Mediterraneans or Dravidians were associated with the ancient Sumerian civilizations of Mesopotamia and of Elam (southern Iran). Authors have pointed out ethnic, linguistic and cultural affinities between the Sumerians (Mesopotamians) and the Dravidians of South India, and concluded that both probably belonged to the same ethnic stock. HR Hall writes: “The ethnic type of the Sumerians, so strongly marked in their statues and relofs was as different from those of the races which surrounded them as was their language from those of the Semites, Aryans and others; they were decidedly Indian in type. The face-type of the average Indian today is no doubt much the same as that of the Dravidian race ancestors thousands of years ago...And it is to this Dravidian ethnic type of India that the ancient Sumerian bears most resemblance, so far as we can judge from his monuments. He was very like a Southern Hindu of the Deccan (who still speaks Dravidian languages). And it is by no means improbable that the Sumerians were an Indian tribe which passed, certainly by land, perhaps also by sea, through Persia to the valley of the Two Rivers.â€
Hall is of the opinion that Dravidian people must have migrated to Mesopotamia from India, whereas others think Dravidians came from Mediterranean regions, which was their earlier home. KP Padmanabha Menon writes about their close relationship: “Orientalists, many of them, are prepared to concede that the Sumerians, the Mediterranean race, are branches of the early Dravidians.â€

Mari (modern Tell Hariri, Syria) was an ancient( Sumerian and Amorite city), located 11 kilometers north-west of the modern town of Abu Kamal on the western bank of Euphrates river, some 120 km southeast of Deir ez-Zor, Syria. It is thought to have been inhabited since the 5th millennium BC, although it flourished with series of superimposed palaces that spans a thousand years, from 2900 BC until 1759 BC, when it was sacked by Hammurabi.[1]
Abu Kamal (Arabic: ??? ?????, Turkish: Ebu Kemal or K??la) is a city in eastern Syria on theEuphrates River near the border with Iraq. The Euphrates divides Abu Kamal into two areas: Shamiyya (belonging to the Levant) and Jazira (belonging to Mesopotamia) Al-Jazira, a plains region consisting of northeastern Syria and northwestern Iraq, quite distinct from the Syrian Desertand lower-lying central Mesopotamia. Abu Kamal is an economically prosperous farming region with cattle-breeding, cereals, and cotton crops. It is also home to the historical site Dura-Europos and the ancient kingdom of Mari.
brother this on the net in regards to the dravidians u know what this may be off the wall for u but i have dramt of the Prophet PBH 10times i have dreamt 2times the dravidians are the sumerians and 1time they are from canaan and that the blacks and ethopians are from the cush son of ham
and after about a yr i came across something in Prophets and Patriarchs that Nimrod is son of cush son of canaan son of ham this is mentioned 2times this is true
and this year i dreamt on 13/11/11 the dravidians were the phonecians i am confused with this?
Before i dreamt of a explanation of the dravidians i dreamt that they are negroid in type Hamitic with straight hair and were also egyptians after this i dreamt that the dravidians came from the fertile crescent in syria close to the sea and after this i dreamt that they came from north africa close to the sea and i see arrows showing their travel one arrow went up into syria and the other went east through southern iraq all southern iran until it reached northwest india
syriac was spoken by Prophet AdamPBH ,Seth, Enoch and Noah PBT the dravidians are indeed the sumerians which means that the aryans borrowed from them
i can only tell that don't blindly beleive in what is scientifically proved. As this done by humans...so it will have many faults and error... You all are supporting your language..good...but you don't have complete knowledge of orgin of other language..why you all fighting..be happy..enjoy ur language.. peace
iam not an tamil guy but true is tamil is the older than other language.
In India more than 60% of Stone Inscriptions is in Tamil only. Tamil stone inscription is found even in China, Greece and most part of the world and Tamil Inscriptions is found in Harrappa civilization also. Also Tamil Civilization is very older than Harappa civilization which is known as KumariKandam(Lemuria). Due to aryan domination still there is no Indian Government ready to made research in Indian ocean. Because if they do that means truth will comes out. There is lot of indications about Kumarikandam in old Tamil books. Without doing research they oppose this because of aryan domination still in India. If you come to south India and some part of North India rural villages you cant find any resemblance of Sanskrit. The peoples there don't know single word in Sanskrit and don't know there is language called sanskrit. Sanskrit have no nativity in India. Its has a European link with it. Languages developed according to the environment and climatic conditions of
that place. All Sanskrit followers try to shut others voice in the name of God. They don't have any proof and if we ask questions and reasons they just tell its god matter like that. But Tamil is very very nativity language in India. Most of the Languages in India comes from Tamil only. This is accepted by most of the scientists in the world. Sanskrit have nearly 5000 years history only but Tamil have the rich history of nearly 25000 years. Already we have acceptable amount of proof for it in the way of inscriptions found all over the world but we still need more research to state this. If
we do this means that will be milestone in searching of languages origin. The blocks for this is conditions in India only. We must come out from them. Sanskrit even don't comes near to Tamil's rich history. Truth must comes out one day......!

chk this out guys
in this first millennium bc
tamil is mentioned...
yes ,It's true Sanskrit language is Oldest language in the world .no fake .
If you read the above reality, maybe you will accept it. Just try and think outside your box for a little bit and all will be revealed.
@nisha: tamil is derived from sanskrit. you guys are too narrow minded that, you dont accept the reality.
Is the proof detailed enough to present here and does it take into account the established details above?
Everybody know tamil is oldest language. have lot of proof
It is believed that the earliest inhabitants of the Indian subcontinent journeyed eastward into the Indus Valley. Here archaeologists have found ruins of a highly advanced civilization at such sites as Harappa and Mohenjo-Daro. In the early decades of the 20th century, these finds changed the view that India’s early settlers were primitive nomadic tribes. More than 4,000 years ago, the Indus Civilization was on a par with, if not superior to, that of Mesopotamia. Evidence of grid-patterned streets, multistoried houses and tenement blocks, excellent sewer and septic-tank drainage, enormous granaries, temples, and baths for ritual cleansing all point to an advanced urban civilization. There are also indications of trade connections with Mesopotamia and the Middle East, the Indus providing a route to the Arabian Sea from hundreds of miles inland.
Over the centuries natural disasters—perhaps earthquakes or great river floods—appear to have weakened the urban civilization of the Indus Valley. This left little resistance to invasion by waves of nomadic tribes from Central Asia, generally referred to as Aryans. They drove most of the city dwellers away from the river, so that the ancient culture that had developed around the Indus now moved to southern India, where today the Dravidian race continues as one of the major Indian ethnic groups.
Moving east through India, some Aryan tribes began to settle in the plains of the Ganga. Thus the Aryan division of the subcontinent developed its unique culture in northern India, primarily associated with the Ganga River, where it largely remains today.
f**king sanskrit and hindi speaking people.
Tamil is oldest and the only Indian language.
You beggers came from outside and now ruling india
According to language academies, about 3,000 tongues are spoken today throughout the earth. Some are spoken by hundreds of millions of persons, others by fewer than a thousand. Though the ideas expressed and communicated may be basically the same, there are many ways to express them. The Bible history alone explains the origin of this strange diversity in human communication.
Up until some point after the global Flood, all mankind “continued to be of one language [literally, “lip”] and of one set of words.” (Ge 11:1) The Bible indicates that the language later called Hebrew was that original “one language.” (See HEBREW, II.) As will be shown, this does not mean that all other languages stemmed from and are related to Hebrew but that Hebrew preceded all other languages.
The Genesis account describes the uniting of some part of the post-Flood human family in a project that opposed God’s will as stated to Noah and his sons. (Ge 9:1) Instead of spreading out and ‘filling the earth,’ they determined to centralize human society, concentrating their residence on a site in what became known as the Plains of Shinar in Mesopotamia. Evidently this was also to become a religious center, with a religious tower.—Ge 11:2-4.
Almighty God gave their presumptuous project a setback by breaking up their unity of action, accomplishing this by confusing their common language. This made impossible any coordinated work on their project and led to their scattering to all parts of the globe. The confusion of their language would also hinder or slow down future progress in a wrong direction, a God-defying direction, since it would limit mankind’s ability to combine its intellectual and physical powers in ambitious schemes and also make it difficult to draw upon the accumulated knowledge of the different language groups formed—knowledge, not from God, but gained through human experience and research. (Compare Ec 7:29; De 32:5.) So, while it introduced a major divisive factor into human society, the confusion of human speech actually benefited human society in retarding the attainment of dangerous and hurtful goals. (Ge 11:5-9; compare Isa 8:9, 10.) One has only to consider certain developments in our own times, resulting from accumulated secular knowledge and man’s misuse thereof, to realize what God foresaw long ago would develop if the effort at Babel were allowed to go unhindered.
Philology, the comparative study of languages, generally classifies languages into distinct “families.” The “parent” language of each major family usually has not been identified; much less is there any evidence pointing to any one “parent” language as the source of all the thousands of tongues now spoken. The Bible record does not say that all languages descended, or branched off, from Hebrew. In what is commonly called the Table of Nations (Ge 10), the descendants of Noah’s sons (Shem, Ham, and Japheth) are listed and in each case are grouped ‘according to their families, according to their tongues, in their lands, by their nations.’ (Ge 10:5, 20, 31, 32) It appears, therefore, that, when miraculously confusing human language, Jehovah God produced, not dialects of Hebrew, but a number of completely new languages, each capable of expressing the full range of human feeling and thought.
Thus, after God confused their language, not only did the builders at Babel lack “one set of words” (Ge 11:1), one common vocabulary, but they also lacked a common grammar, a common way of expressing the relationship between words. Professor S. R. Driver stated: “Languages, however, differ not only in grammar and roots, but also . . . in the manner in which ideas are built up into a sentence. Different races do not think in the same way; and consequently the forms taken by the sentence in different languages are not the same.” (A Dictionary of the Bible, edited by J. Hastings, 1905, Vol. IV, p. 791) Thus, different languages require quite different thought patterns, making it difficult for a new learner to ‘think in the language.’ (Compare 1Co 14:10, 11.) This is also why a literal translation of something said or written in an unfamiliar language may seem illogical, often causing persons to say, “But it doesn’t make sense!” So, it appears that, when Jehovah God confused the speech of those at Babel, he first blotted out all memory of their previous common language and then introduced into their minds not only new vocabularies but also changed thought patterns, producing new grammars.—Compare Isa 33:19; Eze 3:4-6.
We find, for example, that certain languages are monosyllabic (made up of words of only one syllable), such as Chinese. By contrast, the vocabularies of a number of other languages are formed largely by agglutination, that is, by joining words placed side by side, as in the German word Hausfriedensbruch, which means literally “house peace breakage,” or, in a form more understandable to the English-speaking mind, “trespass.” In some languages syntax, the order of the words in the sentence, is very important; in others it matters little. So, too, some languages have many conjugations (verb forms); others, such as Chinese, have none. Countless differences could be cited, each requiring an adjustment in mental patterns, often with great effort.
Apparently the original languages resulting from divine action at Babel in course of time produced related dialects, and the dialects frequently developed into separate languages, their relationship to their “sister” dialects or to the “parent” language sometimes becoming almost indistinguishable. Even Shem’s descendants, who apparently did not figure among the crowd at Babel, came to speak not only Hebrew but also Aramaean, Akkadian, and Arabic. Historically, various factors have contributed to the change in languages: separation due to distance or geographic barriers, wars and conquests, a breakdown in communications, and immigration by those of another language. Because of such factors ancient major languages have fragmented, certain tongues have partially merged with others, and some languages have disappeared completely and have been replaced by those of the invading conquerors.
Language research provides evidence in harmony with the preceding information. The New Encyclopaedia Britannica says: “The earliest records of written language, the only linguistic fossils man can hope to have, go back no more than about 4,000 or 5,000 years.” (1985, Vol. 22, p. 567) An article in Science Illustrated of July 1948 (p. 63) states: “Older forms of the languages known today were far more difficult than their modern descendants . . . man appears not to have begun with a simple speech, and gradually made it more complex, but rather to have gotten hold of a tremendously knotty speech somewhere in the unrecorded past, and gradually simplified it to the modern forms.” Linguist Dr. Mason also points out that “the idea that ‘savages’ speak in a series of grunts, and are unable to express many ‘civilized’ concepts, is very wrong,” and that “many of the languages of non-literate peoples are far more complex than modern European ones.” (Science News Letter, September 3, 1955, p. 148) The evidence is thus against any evolutionary origin of speech or of ancient languages.
Concerning the focal point from which the spreading of ancient languages began, Sir Henry Rawlinson, Oriental language scholar, observed: “If we were to be thus guided by the mere intersection of linguistic paths, and independently of all reference to the scriptural record, we should still be led to fix on the plains of Shinar, as the focus from which the various lines had radiated.”—The Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britian and Ireland, London, 1855, Vol. 15, p. 232.
Among the major “families” listed by modern philologists are: Indo-European, Sino-Tibetan, Afro-Asian, Japanese and Korean, Dravidian, Malayo-Polynesian, and Black African. There are many tongues that till now defy classification. Within each of the major families there are many subdivisions, or smaller families. Thus, the Indo-European family includes Germanic, Romance (Italic), Balto-Slavic, Indo-Iranian, Greek, Celti
Because Sanskrit is the mother tongue ! thats why a lot of this worlds words contain sanskrit. There was a much older culture before biblical times, this world didnt start 10,000 yrs ago..Scientists say the earth is 4.3 billion yrs old.
What about Mohenjo Daro, Harrapan and Dwarka cities ? Look them up, and you will discovery a civilization much older and much more advanced than any other for its time.
Know the difference between fact and metaphor ;) , Eve wasnt created from Adams rib.
It is always humble to accept truth once you've found it - But if you insist on Tamil history only and do not even consider others, how will you arive at truth. You are definitely mixing indian history with world history because these stories do not fall in line with world history in other parts of the world i.e Egypt, Babylon, Persia, Greece and Roman civilizations. If you do not put all the data together from around the world you will not get truth. Now the easiest way is to compare the thoughts and perceptions of people living at the same period of time. Like I said, one known thought on the subject of language is mentioned in a 1513 BC script recorded at Genesis 11:1 . It would be good to campare similar thoughts in Sanskrit and Tamil. The problem is, we can't seem to find any at the moment. Let me know when you do. Everything else is not proof only conjecture - as there are no corresponding thoughts in other areas of the world and thier establish history. Remember please that "language" and "thoughts" are linked as we can't have language without thought. Also, why does Sanskrit contain Hebrew, Arabic and Persian words? I would like an answer from a reputable source please - no self appointed scientists!
Sanskrit is the oldest living language in the World.
how many times scientist should prove us, only two languages flourished in the world, while most of the people were just nomads... it was Tamil and then later on Sanskrit... those were the days wen people know only eating, sleeping, eventually reproducing.... but tamil were spoken in its oldest form , with complete sense n grammer, written scripts, poems, etc... as tamils history goes back 10000s of yrs back ( based on carbon dating), some english scholars found tamil scrupltures in ancient egpyt too... universities were first built in tamil land, were ppl from different countries came here to study arts and science.... this is how medicine, architecture, astronomy, astrology, were spreaded to other countries from tamil ancient science.... tamil kingdoms suffered a number of hard times n declins at times, were some of the arts were only can b seen in books n not in reality....
i can give u an example, Bohar a siddhar, found the use of gold and other metals in treating many autoimmune dieases n succeded... this idea was not accepted by allopathy before 100 yrs, but after serious research, now we r prescribing gold saalts for rheumatic arthritis... chinese scholars learned this technique from bohars disciple and took it to china....
like this in any field, science, medicine, arts, martial arts, tamil has its own invention and taught to other civilisations later on....
its always humble to accept the truth..... oldest language and most important oldest living language is Tamil...
That's not proof in any language! Right direction should be able to answer the questions. Why is it difficult to find a script in Sanskrit or Tamil written around 1513 BC (like Genesis 11:1 - documented very clearly) that tells us what the languages were like at that time!? If Sanskrit or Tamil is older, then prove the above wrong. If you can't you may need to revise your stories. Let me know what your research suggests ; that is if you have done the research. Thank you - much appreciated.
If u want to make your Research in right direction just try to know about Tamil history..... that leads you in a right path......
That's the point - we can't see anything if we don't look. Sanskrit contains Hebrew, Arabic and Persian words. It dosn't seem to work well backwards. Anyhow, Genesis 11:1 (written around 1513 BC) is very interesting - Hardly can be called my literature - I am not that old to write it; cheeky! Would really be interesting to see something equivilant in Sanskrit though - just to compare similar thoughts of people living at that time; our thoughts are obviously prone to error living well outside that period. Evidence of eyewitnesses has got to be far more powerfull. If you find anything in Sanskrit I would be most appreciative to look at it so I can see for myself. Thank you.
Guys if you want to say something please prove it dont pluck something from the sky or quote from your literature and convince others.Until now it is Sanskrit that has the oldest written script so Sanskrit wins maybe in future we could find other script that is older so we wait and see.
Regarding the oldest language, what do you make of Genesis 11:1 ? Why would Moses, (the man that was given laws that most civil societies today base thier judicial systems on), clearly a sound mind, be inspired to write this. Everyone else - please look it up. Just a thought!
Wonderful hub Barry ! Sooo pleased to find this. I just wanted to say that the surviving copy of the Rig Veda was dated to 1500bc , but many are suggesting it might be even older, 3100bc perhaps.
Aryan invasion was indeed a false theory. And secondly only some aryans were nomadic, this was largely due to the fact that the horse had been domesticated. Basically equal to us having cars these days. The original aryans travelled far, as most of you know thier legacy reached some far off places such as Kazakstan and Siberia. The Russian city of Omsk, has the sanskrit word OM in it.
The lost tribe called the 'Tokharians' are also linked to the ancient aryans. They had horses and thier graves were discovered in north west China.
Ancient Indian civilization had also produced advanced maths and sciences. Certainly this culture was capable of a complete written language.
Tamil did contribute, the Dravidian/Aryan cultures clashed, fused and shared much with each other.DNA tests confirmed that some southern Indians migrated from Africa. They both share a M31 gene which is to be found nowhere else! In case any of you havent seen this , watch a great BBC documentary called "The Story Of India" its on youtube :)
I am not A hater of Sanskrit and I do love that language. If Sanskrit is the mother of Tamil, then Tamil language should have four letters in each consonant as in other Indian languages, but it is not so. More than this no proof is required . May be ,both the languages developed simultaneously like contemporaries.
No doubt tamil is the very oldest language in the world.the first human culture is harapha.in that place the scientists invent some letter the letters is the oldest tamil letter this enough for tamil is the oldest language in the world.TAMILAN DA.
At last it is proven to the world that Tamil is officially the oldest language in the world.
And also it is also proven Tamil nadu is the oldest civilization in term of culture too
sanskrit all the way no doubt about it so all u guys shut up and believe it
Sanskrit has been around since SATYA YUGA, way before 300BC(some guy said the oldest tamil letters were from 300BC)
Sanskrit IS the oldest language. It has been proven that Greek and Latin have derived from sanskrit
all people who suggested Tamil,Hebrew or others are wrong. Sanskrit is the oldest.
sanskrit is the first language u all guys
SANSKIT,even though it has been converted into Punjabi and Hindi, still there's a proof because Lord RAMA lived 20 MILLION years ago. Also Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva way before Lord Rama
DUDE, SANSKIT 4 101% SURE. I'M PART of INDO-ARYAN PEOPLE.IN MY CITY IN PUNJAB,INDIA ,THERE IS A PROVE OF SANSKIT ABOUT 50000 B.C. OLD SOME SCRIPT PAPERS. THOUGH IT HAS BEEN CHANGE INTO PUNJABI AND HINDI,BUT STILL ITS THE OLDEST LANGUAGE.
surprisngly all indian r one side and tamilians one side...
tamil language might be old but sanckrit is the oldest....
india is affected from lots of invasion and the if u absorve lot of temples damaged a lot...some one can so brutally damage a temple...why cant they damage and oldest vedic scripts?
so if u talk abt some old letter of tamil, then there will be much older script of Sanskrit which r supposed to come out....if our archiology ppl do good job, everthing come out soon....
sad that we have cm daughter and other central mp's in big scandals....how can archeology ppl get funds for excavations???
do yoga and beleive Sanskrit!!!!!!
I dont know which one is older.. But the following threads might enlighten you Barry to decide.. http://www.mayyam.com/talk/showthread.php?1798-Tam http://forumhub.com/tlit/1390.4443.09.25.44.html
Accordingly i think sanskrit is the oldest language in the world,it is eternal,no language has as purity and clear as sanskrit. Our rishis and other great scholar used only sanskrit not tamil,it is mother of languages.
The Tamil language sound is basically nature in compare with other language sound. More over the Kumari kandam has proved it is oldest cultivated civilization and it is agreed and recoded in the First century.
Believe the tamil language is oldest in the world and dated back around 10000 years.

Hi Barry,
Thought of just contributing something here that might be useful to you or for your research. If you can forget or unlearn Darwin's evolutionary theory for a moment, it would help greatly. According to Darwin's theory, organized languages started appearing only recently, only later than 10,000 BC. But according to many ancient literatures in the world - be it Greek or Tamil or Sanskrit or Chinese, you would find that the authors would speak of events that would have occurred several thousands of years back. According to Vedic system of time, there are 4 different ages - Sathya (1,728,000 years), Tretha (1,296,000 years), Dwapara (864,000 years) & Kali (432,000 years). The ancient mystics & yogis who authored the Vedas say that the world is presently in Kali age or age of ignorance. Likewise, in Greek philosophy too, we have 4 ages & they say we are in the age of iron.
Kali age began around 5000 years back, which may be the time when global floods devoured port cities & destroyed many civilizations, may coincide with the Biblical/Sumerian & other cultures' flood accounts. One more coincidence here is that the Mayan calendar's current cycle also is said to have began at around 5000 years back. They too say that when the last cycle ended 5000 years back, there was great devastation. On a separate note, we find that ancient people in general and Native Americans in particular were expert astronomers.
The Vedic historic stories, called Puranas, although mythological in nature, talk about cosmic & global events occurring hundreds of thousands or even millions of years in the past. They talk about ancient nuclear bomb-like weapons & their use, the stories accurately narrate the effects of a nuclear explosion, of radiation exposure. They talk about the various 'craft' or flying machines. The stories do not briefly mention about these crafts, but in some cases, explain in detail the technical aspects of such travel, so ruling out the argument that they are "just figments of imagination".
I do not have the complete details, but know of authors & researchers who have the details. Several people have done research on this, and increasingly many people are questioning the validity of Darwin's evolutionary theory. I have also read of accounts of impossible & great finds being buried back again, or being taken to the Smithsonian or elsewhere to be concealed from public, which if revealed, would totally shatter the current view of history.
Sir Fracis Crick, the co-discoverer of the DNA molecule, said that even the single-celled microorganism was so advanced that, explaining it with evolution would be similar to the likelihood of alphabets falling from the sky to form an 'encyclopedia'.
But this is not something that is peculiar to Vedic literature. It is same with Chinese and most other literaures. Even the Tamil literatures talk about extremely ancient times, advanced civilization & machines.
Interestingly, Tamil scriptures do talk about a so-called 'lost continent'. Called Kumari kandam, some say it existed as a big landmass in the Indian Ocean below the Indian peninsula. It is said that kadatkols (tsunamis) submerged huge portions of it over time, until finally completely submerging it under waters, thought to be several thousands of years back in history, probably before Atlantis, if you do believe in Atlantis. Very similar to Plato's account of Atlantis, a 12th century author called Adiyarkkunallar gives details about this lost landmass (you can learn more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumari_Kandam).
Now, here are some very interesting videos for research, pls do check it out if it interests you:

Greek is the mother of all aryan languages proof the etymology.
Sanskrit is no the oldest language it is tamil and if u look closly Tamil is related to aramiac and other middle east language just go to google.com and put tamil brahmi and u well see that tamil is related to the oldest languages of all time
All I can tell you is Sanskrit is mother of all Indian languages!
THERE WAS NO ARYAN INVASION!!
There is no Aryan and Dravidian!!!
Tamil is descended from the same language as other Indian languages are.OLD TAMIL was nothing but a dialect of Sanskrit just same as PALI!!!!
DON'T TRY TO BE OLDER THAN YOUR MOTHER!!!!!
Earth is not older than 6.500 years according to God, please, stop being stupid and believe what he says. It is based on evidence, not feelings which many of the ranting comments on here are based on. Earth is old, but not the absurdly old age Satan wants us all to believe, so that when the Bible says the Earth will wax old, people would instead forever think of it as young whenever it's true age is told. But it is not young, it is about 6,450 years old now, which is very old. The rest of the universe is about the same age, so the universe, is old. For those of you who think it is older, you have no evidence for it. You have arbitrary radiometric dates which anti-Bible morons arbitrarily make up when different dates come up. You cannot do that, it isn't scientific, which is a supposed method you anti-God people follow. Well you don't follow it, you follow your emotions, which are against God, and therefore the truth.
According to my analytical study on languages. There are evidences that Sanskrit is the oldest language of the world. This is due to the fact that all the Vedas which were written undated and the all the Hindu scriptures also written in Sanskrit. Ramayana which was translated to Tamil. It shows that Sanskrit was the first language of the world. Not the Tamil. If Tamil happened to be a oldest language Valmiki would have written Ramayana in Tamil because there was no other language other than Sanskrit. Besides that all the four Vedas deals with the secret of creation, planets, mathematics, astrology, metaphysics, yogas all the sastras and sutras written in Sanskrit not in Tamil. That the reason why every one call Sanskrit as the language of the God or angles. If on can analyze even the Sanskrit writing and Tamil writing. One can see the characteristics of Sanskrit writing can be seen even in Tamil. Look at the alphabet A , OM, E, and supporting alphabets actually basically in Sanskrit style and the characteristics. Therefore, I would like to suggest that a true researcher shouldn't be bias or emotional base and should ready to accept the truth but don't carried away with racist sentiment , extremism and own fantasies.
The most oldest language of India is a Vedic Samskrutam
(I am not talking about classical here!!).
Oh crap...Do you know a Vedic period???
written text dated to ca.1500 BC...
Do you know what that means?
So never ever try to compare any language with it!!!
But whats the use? Its almost a dead language.
Tamil is the very oldest language in this world. And it is the first speaking language in the world.I very proud to say this because im tamilan.
Tamil is the oldest language in this universe. Thamizh Vaazhga
Sanskrit is the oldest spoken language as in those early days everyone had good memories and could repeat the longest statements made - word per word years after they heard it originally - However the writing of this oldest language may be confused as the vacabularly had already been established by sanskrit but the transformation of the language into something visual can be determined only by seing + determining the dates of the old scriptures and seing which language in today's terms i.e Hindi , Urdu , Arabic , chinese , etc that these original scriptures are written - it seems they were written in Hindi letters - although actual words were sanskrit...moving on from this it seems Sanskrit is the language of the gods in todays terms it suggests that the relegion that came from these old scriptures is Hinduism which is regarded as the oldest relegion in the world... However the word Hindu originated from the a river called Sindh and the people on the other side of the river could not pronounce the letter S so they use to say the people that live near the river Sindh are all Hindus - thus the word Hinduism....The original scriptures do not mention this word - A proper so called hindu does not regard himself as a Hindu but regards himself as a Brahmin as mentioned in the old scriptures and Vedas including the original Gita as told by the supreme Lord Krishna 5000 years ago to Arjun on the battelfield...This was told in Sanskrit as was originally told by the sun god over 5 million years ago in Sanskrit... Basically if Hinduism - originating from Brahminsm is the oldest relegion then Sanskrit would be the oldest language...You only have to visit India and look at the temples that brahmins still worship at and of which some are the oldest architecures in the world as proven by scientists or archiologists... If you look at the evidence with an open or unbiast mind then it is quite clear that Sanskrit is the mother of all languages as is Hinduism the oldest relegion ... as Indian Hindu Temples are the oldest architectures...
The sign language.
Tamil is the oldest language in the world. It has already been proved scientifically. No doubt about that
i really support the view of muhsin 19 month ago,and i also suggest that all languages are originated from Adam (A.S)(first man on earth and a prophet) who was touch by the All mighty Allah (S.W.T)see Qur'an:2:31,also see fara'id jalilah wa wasa'id fawai'd al-jamilah fi-ulumul Al-qur'an,p.97 by Abdullahi bin Fodio
I believe rather than arguing here just about who's language is here first blindly, we go and do our research and then talk about it. Sanskrit was used in spiritual texts and other places. However according to the archiological findings, they have found the oldest letters as the Tamil letters (pre-Tamil letters) and when it was translated to spoken Tamil, linguists say it only matches the Tamil language and there's no proof or archiological findings that proof that Sanskrit was the oldest. However all the findings say that Tamil is the oldest language. There are heaps of Tamil litratures dating back to 300 B.C and prior to that. I'm talking only based on the facts and archiological findings here.
I feel tamil/sanskrit is d oldest language in d world since hinduism is the 1st religion in d world and it has been created for its own.
Aryans spoke Sanskrit. Since the Aryans were nomads, Sanskrit spread to other regions and resulted in a lot of sister languages over time. Recent finds, however, prove that Aryans never really invaded Indus Valley. Indus Valley civilization ended due to drought and cities were submerged later by floods. Dravidians existed far down south, well before Indus valley and the Aryans. They were quite removed from the rest of the world because they were already well settled in their homes and had little need to travel or interact with others. Dravidians spoke Tamil and archeologists believe that Tamil is probably the oldest language in the world. The religion of Dravidians formed the roots of hinduism as well. Aryans liked the concepts of Hinduism and adopted that religion because they had no other religion of their own. Aryans helped propagate hinduism by writing epics such as Ramayana and Mahabharatha.
To make it short...IF most of the languages in the modern world contains at least a few words of the Tamil language , does it not mean two things, one is the People would have travelled to the Tamil lan or the Tamil people were great travellers as seen in history......so obvioulsy Tamil should be the oldest language in the world.
The oldest language is the assyrian language, it was spoken by jesus christ which is enough as evidence to make it authentic. All what u guys wrote was pure non sense. NO OFFENSE... but who doesn't know that assyrians were the strongest of all and they still live up to now scattered in every country.. the language might have lost its power , but it would never lose its origin as being the first language. Basically, you can ask any religious figure about the assyrian language and then talk about tamil or sanskrit. Thank you
in the world every born human child speaks only one language alphabets it is tamil please watch everywere
the oldest language is the TAGA ILOG! stop the arguements! ^_^ no one could tell what is the first language... i think they are all corruption of the 1st language... right?
I dnt siad every buddy are wrong...but in proven that tamil is oldest!! for one of reason pls view to our thirukurral(valluvar)have said..agaremuthel ellutellam athi bagaven mutrei ulage..which maens 'A' letters, the ancient lord
leads and lords entire world
I love Tamil because it is a historical rich languageas it has rich grammar such as Tolkappiam which was written before centuries.tamil mozhi vazhga!!!!!!!
I think that Tamil is ofcourse the oldest language since inscriptions dating to several centuries are found in the Tanjore Brihadeeswara temple
Sanskrit is the oldest language of the world. Majority of european languages and Asian languages including urdu are derived from sanskrit. So SANSKRIT is the oldest.
SANSKRIT IS THE OLDEST LANGUAGE OF THE WORLD. THERE IS NO
CONFUSION ON IT. THESE PEOPLE HERE ARE BRINGING REGIONALISM.IT MAKES ME MAD WHEN I READ MARATHI IS OLDEST. SANSKRIT IS THE OLDEST. NO FURTHER DISCUSSION ON IT.
The Dravidian languages have been found mainly in South India since the start of the common era. Original homeland being a sunken continent called Kumari Kandam, after the distruction by sea the people migerated to different parts of the world including the Indus Valley. There is a beleaf that Abraham is from the Dravidian race. The Jewish scholar and theologian Flavius Josephus (37 - 100 A.D.), wrote that the Greek philosopher Aristotle had said: "...These Jews are derived from the Indian philosophers; they are named by the Indians Calani." (Book I:22.)Dravin language like Malayalam , Tamil , and Kanadam are the oldest language identified so far.
Yes , i do agree that Tamil is the first language and the oldest language all over the world.
samerian is the oldest
According to many Linguistic Historians its commenly agreed upon that Sanskrit is the oldest comphrehensive language to appear in human history even beofre Pali , They also agree that the closest living language to both Sanskrit ans pali is "Singhalese" where there are 100's of sanskrit words in the singhalese language still being used with the origainal meaning. Please note that the country Sri lanka is believed to be a broken off land mass from the west coast of india ( Decan valley ) However this is the info we have but keep in mind that the first human civilisation was not the Indus civilisation but the Mesopotamian civilisation between the Tigris and Euphrates , this is confirmed by the bible Of the Christians which is believed to be the Oldest and the most accurate account of history. Interestingly there is a mention of the some tower and God confusing the language of people , can one confer that all of todays languages derive from one unknown language ?, there are similar words in laguages My Assumption is that the oldest language in use today is either singhales or hebrew
Tamil is the oldest living language of the Human History. Tamizh Vazhga!!!!!!!!!!
I have 2 points and related quotation of links below:
1.Aryan Invasion
2.Oldest Language debate
========================
First i would like to say that.....
Sanskrit & Tamil are the 2 eyes of India.
========================================
Indians should be proud of with what they have rather than fight amongst themselves to prove which one is older.
Aryan Invasion
---------------
First of all, don't get influenced by the Aryan Invasion Theory or "Divide n Rule" policy of Aryan & Dravidians, which was very cunningly embedded into our education, thought and culture by the Europeans like Max Muller, Macaulay, etc.
http://www.indianetzone.com/6/promotion_western_ed
They wanted to prove that India was always dominated or ruled by outsiders or invaders and hence Indians like to be ruled. They wanted this to develop a servile psychology in the minds of Indians. Okay, I am diverting a bit from the subject, u can get these materials from lot of books, googling and websites by more modern Indologists. There are lot of recent research showing the Aryan invasion as a hoax/lie.
One of the eminent writer is David Frawley.
please go through recent studies even by some eminent Indian historians from South regarding the myth of Aryan Invasion before commenting and divding us the Indians
into Aryans and Dravidians again. Also if you know how to google u can get articles from foreign Indologists too who deny the Aryan Invasion.
You all can go through books by David Frawley too.
http://www.trsiyengar.com/id49.shtml
The great deal of early British Indology was motivated by Christian missionary considerations, is no secret. Colonel Boden founded the famous and important 'Boden Chair for Sanskrit' at the University of Oxford in 1811 with the explicit object 'to promote the translation of the Vedic Scriptures from Sanskrit into English, so as to enable his countrymen to proceed in the conversion of the natives of India to the Christian Religion'. In 1886 Max Muller, in a letter to his wife wrote: 'The translation of the Veda will hereafter tell to a great extent on the fate of India and on the growth of millions of souls in that country. It is the root of their religion, and to show them what the root is, I feel sure, is the only way of uprooting all that has sprung from it during the last 3000 years.'
However, later Max Muller himself admitted the purely conjectural nature of the Vedic chronology, and in the last work published shortly before his death, The Six Systems of Indian Philosophy, he admitted: 'Whatever may be the date of the Vedic hymns, whether 1500 or 15 000 BCE, they have their own unique place and stand
A recent major work by Klaus Klostermaier that denies Aryan invasion theory (you can read the full article on http://www.iskcon.com/icj/6_1/6_1klostermaier.html offers
'seventeen arguments: why the Aryan invasion never happened'. Here we will mention only some of them that are relevant in our discussion about the Vedas
Regarding Vedic chronology Max Muller wrote: "Whether the Vedic hymns were composed 1000 or 1500 or 2000 or 3000 years B.C. no power on earth will ever determine."
As can be expected, most of those who were great proponents of the Aryan invasion theory were often ardent English and German nationalists, or Christians, ready and willing to bring about the desecration of anything that was non-Christian or non-European. Even Max Muller believed in the Christian chronology, that the world was
created at 9:00 AM on October 23, 4004 B.C. and the great flood occurred in 2500 B.C. Thus, it was impossible to give a date for the Aryan invasion earlier than 1500 B.C. After all, accepting the Christian time frame would force them to eliminate all other evidence and possibilities, so what else could they do? So, even this date for the Aryan invasion was based on speculation.
In this way, the Aryan invasion theory was created to make it appear that Indian culture and philosophy was dependent on the previous developments in Europe, thereby justifying the need for colonial rule and Christian expansion in India. This was also the purpose of the study of Sanskrit, such as at Oxford University in England, as indicated by Colonel Boden who sponsored the program. He stated that they should
“promote Sanskrit learning among the English, so as ‘to enable his countrymen to proceed in the conversion of the natives of India to the Christian religion.’”

Saraswati Civilization didnt start with faith.... just like any other civilization
it started with written records, then research, just like the under water Dwarka,
discovered very recently in the late 90s, earlier it was justa a written record.

"Climatic change and neotectonic movements have led to migration and abandonment of
several rivers and drainage systems. Some of them are ‘lost’ because of the
overburden of silt. But several evidences left by them usually help in proving the
existence of a geomorphic feature in a particular location, which attract the
attention of the interested people to discover the past. In India, the river
Saraswati reflects such a fascinating history, supported by geological, hydrological
and archaeological evidences as well as the records of the most modern tools, such
as remote sensing and GIS. With the aid of remote sensing through orbiting
satellites, the mystery of the river is more or less solved"
....For 2000 years, between 6000 and 4000 B.C., the Saraswati flowed as a great
river. R. D. Oldham (1886) was the first geologist who argued logically pointing to
the great changes in the drainage pattern of the rivers of Punjab and western
Rajasthan converting a once fertile region into a desert.....
As technologies and studies are upgrading so should our mind...
Coming to languages....Rishi Agastyar under the guidance of Lord Shiva formulated
Tamil. Rishi Agastyar knew/spoke sanskrit too. Please forget the 1500BC date for
Aryan Invasion, thats an obsolete theory.
Regarding the first language
============================
its very difficult to conclude, as languages in the beginning were sign languages
which slowly evolved into more sophistication thru sounds..
Sanskrit & Tamil are the 2 eyes of India. Indians should be proud of with what they
have rather than fight amongst themselves to prove which one is older.
Rather why dont we look outside and see what are the other older languages which
claims to be the oldest and try to reason out whether they are or we are...

used against them efficiently by their neighbouring Countries"
====================================================================================
it is absolutely true.....and this is also proved by history.
There was always this disharmony and treachery which helped the invasions from
North-West starting from Alexander when petty kings used to fight against each
other....again the Rajputs internal feuds and jealousy which paved the way and invited the Ghaznis, Ghauris, etc....to India.
In South India they were no less too in showing disunity...

It is very difficult to say which is the oldest language. Till now we have been able to say that the oldest 'known' language is Sanskrit or Tamil. I may be very much tempted to say Sanskrit is the oldest language, but this would be wrong. The simple reason being that Latin and Sanskrit came down from the same language. In fact both can be directly traced from Persian. It may be said that both Sanskrit and Latin were the corruption of the Persian language. For example consider the word Cetum (became Centum in Latin) and Shatem (became Shatam in Sanskrit) both mean 100 and directly come from the Persians (You may be shocked to see the similarity between ancient Persian and Sanskrit and you may be tempted to advocate that Ancient Persian is Sanskrit). But again Persia broke from ancient Sumer (Sumer is the oldest known civilization yet which was about 8000 BC) which makes the Sumerian language the oldest. However if my general knowledge is right, Tamil must have been widely spoken in Indian civilization way before the Aryans supposedly came to India (it's still to be proven that they came from a different place). But according to even modern research which is ongoing, Indian civilization doesn't go back before 5000 BC. That means even if Tamil was spoken, it must have been a corruption of a different language. So the question still remains, which was the world's oldest spoken language?
WTF is wrong wit u ppl tamil was there before 5000 bc,dravidins were here befo 5000 bc aryans came 1500 bc, wot were the dravidians speakin sucking thumb huh?? taml is the oldest language in india
if any one learn 'thirukkural' other then tamilian then come to speak here. only 1330 kural(line) are say total of human life. only the human because he not mention any particular language, country, religion, any society this our power of the language. so all are same in the world. so please ignore all those thins and come to learn tamil and you know the real thins. it have lots of assets here in the languages this real.if i have second life then i wants come as a tamilian.
stupid
there is not even a question which one is the oldest since the Hebrew language is the first language ever spoken.
The Hebrew language is the oldest language.
old is tamil...proof is there for both human and language as oldest in world..........
its Tamil
------------------
Tamil literature has existed for over two thousand years.[7] The earliest epigraphic records found date from around the third century BCE.[8] The earliest period of Tamil literature, Sangam literature, is dated from the 300 BCE – 300 CE.[9][10] Inscriptions in Tamil Language from 1st century BCE and 2nd century CE have been discovered in Egypt and Thailand.
The oldest language in the world is Armenian, if you look at the history of languages, Armenian language is the only language that doesn't affiliate with any other languages in the world. Unlike Hebrew, Arabic and other old languages have been a part of Greek, Latin, etc. Studies also proven that Armenians were around over 5000 years ago.. Some History if anyone didn't know.
Foul language is the oldest like the oldest profession in the world, prostitution. Buck up! Use foul language and make it ur mother tongue and u'll be hailed as the oldest language speaker like so many other egg headed chatterboxes here!
Bombaiya Tapori language is the mother of all languages. Great poets from all over the world like Tulsi das, Shakespere, Rabindranath Tagore and many more were speaking only in this language.
telagu is older than tamil
tamil and telagu derevide from same root..
So telagu is also oldest language
tamil is oldest languge
Hi
nobody can deny the dravidian's systematic culture and their life style. you know the so called aryans are nomadics.Their language should be younger than tamil.
You people do not argue without proper evidance
all stupid dont know that GUJRATHI is the oldest language in the world. The first human being was GUJRATHI.Its proved scientifically.........
tamil is oldest language.. thamizhan endru solla da thalai nimurinthu nilla da tamil valzha!!!
no doubt it is tamil
Can't consider sumerian as a full language(no grammar or defined pronunciation). So Tamil is the oldest.
common guys speak fact...whole india knows arayan invasion theory and who ruled harrapa and mohazadaroo...and dravidians were people of indus valley civilization...........tamil is oldest language of the world not only india.........bramins have no evidence...only myths.........in this educateed societ only science speaks not mythology..............so tamil is the oldest
I know the oldest language in the wrold is aramiac that Jesses christ spoke and also the Assyrian , no it is not Arabic, or any other language that came based on the aramiac alpha bet.
People think that aramiac is dead, but you know the Assyrians are proud to be assyrians kept it alive, they speak it, read it and write it and as you know that is the languge that the Lord Jesses Christ spoke.
DEVANAGARA LIPI OR SANSKRIT
Excuse me all...
The oldest of all is Arabic, it was before the creation of man, was being spoken by the creatures before man. Its proved by Holy Quran.
Hello excuse me
Am a Tamilian and i can assure you . Naan oru thamizhan paa. sonna nambunga .
World's oldest language is Ancient Sumerian.
tamil is obviously the oldest language around
Tamil of course .... it has been proved....thats basically all you need
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classical_languages
Please go thru the link before u blabber non-sensical stuff . no linguist in the world except the dumb brahmin linguists say sanskrit is the oldest .
sanskrit has words borrowed heavily from persian .
eg.maidan(playground)
bandi(prison)
kalam(pen)
these are just a few words , there r lots more
One guys says scientists proved it , wat a retard
the oldest language in the world in ancient sumerian , you noobs .
even chinese, hebrew and greek are older than sanskrit .
It's so obvious that Tamil is the oldest language:
Sanskrit is clearly a language of nomads which came to birth after 1500bc where Ancient Tamil was already reaching it"s medevial period then.Sanskrit is already dead in the modern world, whereby Ancient Tamil is still living rich in the modern world. Indusvalley is one of the oldest civilisation and In the historical past Proto-Dravidian was spoken throughout India and Tamil being the Mother of Dravidian Tongue
Marathi is South Asia'a oldest language. From Marathi , Sanskrit language was made as cipered Marathi language, to protect Hinduism and promote Hinduism. In Marathi only Mahabharatha, Ramayana were all first written and later on translatedd to ciphered Marathi(Sanskrit)..This is truth.Like Marathi , around the globe, various languages of that region were and are oldest language of the world.
sanskrit isnt the oldest it was around for around a 1000 years tamil was 50000 of years ago its one of the few proto launguages that evolved into a proper launguage so tamil is the oldest
SANSKRIT IS THE OLDEST LANGUAGE IN THE WORLD AND SCIENTIST ALSO ACCEPT IT.
Tamil language must be the oldest language, because it has enough proofs, as simple as that.
tamil is the oldest language because it had a gramatical way to write & conversation from 2500bc.
so the birth of tamil is arround 5000bc
Scientifically Tamil has the proof than SANSKRIT also have the scientifc as well as mythological proof? now what will u say?
you are all wrong;
it is not Tamil,Sanskrit or Hebrew...
God's language is the oldest!
Tamil Is the oldest language and this is for sure
Bhagwan save us all!!! Why do we get fooled soo easily. "Aryans" did not come from Europe. "Aryans and Dravidians" - these were created by the British to bring about a divide among Indians. Anciant Indian culture originated on the banks of the great river Saraswati which dried up around 10,000 years ago (refer any peer reviewd Geology Journals). All Indian languages are derived from Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the most perfect language and the language even our most advanced computers understand easily (refer any peer reviewd Information Technology Journals). Sanskrit is grammatically perfect too. Can any other language claim these attributes. PLEASE do not get confused, PLEASE do not be linguistic fanatics. Sanskrit is the oldest, most perfect and be proud that it is the mother of all other languages.

OK, this is going to take a while as I saw a few comments that are based on historical teachings and not based on archaeological evidence.
1. Indus valley civilisation is perhaps one of the oldest civilisations in Asia but that does NOT mean humans didn't exist in various parts of India prior to that!
2. Archaeological survey in southern parts of India has proved that societies and communities existed even before the Indus valley timelines. And these communities spoke Tamil. And that's one of the primary reasons why Tamil was awarded the first Classical language status in India in 2004 even prior to awarding it to Sanskrit.
3. The word "Sanskrit" itself means "Purified" which means the language was borrowed & purified from a few other languages such as Pali, Ardha-Magadhi, etc. So it is pretty obvious that Sanskrit could NOT have been older!
4. There are two thoughts - 1. Aryans might have come to India from Central Europe, OR 2. Aryans migrated from India to Europe. Again, these are just theories and thoughts. No proof what-so-ever. Aryans did NOT exist! Aryan Invasion is still a theory and has not been proven. So trying to equate or relate Sanskrit to any European language is just a waste of time.
5. I saw some comments about god and language of god. Scientifically speaking - There is NO god, unless otherwise you are referring to an Alien species!
