I go into work log onto my Gmail Account page and check my unread messages. Firstly I click on all the messages I can read later. I seek out the personal emails and eliminate the ones I probably need to read by archiving them and marking them as unread. . As it happens I feel let down there is not a single email there that is addressed to me. By let down I mean that I was expected a message from a source about what had happened. Am I looking for something that is not there? Possibly. Even though I have had a crush on Rahul; There is no way I would endanger my legal and social standing with with a one night fling. No offence Rahul. No way!
So despite of all the self perpetuating drama that is going on in my mind nothing comes from checking my emails. A voice in my head it is self evident my dear Watson.(a reference Sherlock Holmes made to his trusty assistant Watson). But i could not see any evidence (other than finding myself in someone else's car) at least at this point which incriminated me. So why why was i feeling such guilt and shame? Only I could answer that surely. Or maybe not somewhere out there is the truth.
It's Friday afternoon and I have a lunch arrangement with a few people from work This event is a send-off one of my colleagues Sarah Hansen who has got a promotion to our Hong Kong Office. Her law speciality is Corporate mergers and acquisitions a growing area in corporate legal work. Sarah brings her boyfriend along, poor thing, Todd whom she will be seeing for the last time as well. Given that Sarah has signed a three year deal with a no opt out clause. Only Todd doesnt know it will be for the last time. We chose the Jelly Fish Rest, an up market trendy fish palace overlooking the river. Movers and shakers around town like to be seen here.
Sarah Melanie and myself order the same thing. Half a dozen Sydney Rock Oysters for entre'. For main we order whole Barramundi with snow peas and mash. I order a glass of Brown Bros Rhine Riesling and a Perrier water with a twist of lime. The two girls go for champagne.
The conversation starts with gossip about the Hong Kong Office what its like what Sarah is likely to encounter there as well as the night life and of most importance the Hong Kong Men.
The oysters slip down, the Barramundi main is delicious . I quaff down my third glass of Riesling and start to meditate on the river and watch and hear the yachts tinkling in the breeze.
One of the girls mentions that Rahul has not been seen today. My pulse suddenly kicks into gear and starts to race. "No I haven't seen him either." I retorted.
