The Story of how Mary became Princess of Denmark is one of pure fairytale. The truth as they say is often stranger than fiction. This is one of those fairly tale stories that young girls dream about.

Prince Frederik of Denmark was visiting Australia to compete in a yachting challenge of the Sydney Olympics in the year 2000.

Frederik(Fred) the heir to the Danish throne was having a couple of drinks in the Slip Inn a trendy Bar in down-town Sydney whilst on a visit during the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Mary Donaldson was there too enjoying drinks. Mary was in Real estate sales in exclusive & expensive Double Bay;But originated from Tasmania. Somehow they both met exchanged phone numbers and voila the single and eligible Frederick was hooked onto a girl from Tasmania. This is the kind of rags to riches story that little girls dream about. Women meets Prince and is turned into a Princess.

Over the next three years the two were often seen together in both Australia and Denmark. "Frederik is one of those people who being around makes you happy. His intelligence and kindness - and he's quite funny as well. We have a connection of the mind," says Mary. It wasn't until April 2003 that Queen Margrethe publicly acknowledged the relationship, though, fuelling rumours of a pending engagement. Six months later the palace announced a royal wedding would take place the following spring.

Mary Elizabeth Donaldson was born on February 5, 1972, in Hobart, Tasmania, the youngest of Scottish-born maths professor John Donaldson and university secretary Henrietta Clark Donaldson's four children. The princess-to-be's parents had emigrated from Edinburgh to Australia in the early Sixties, becoming citizens of the country in 1975. (Mum Henrietta passed away in 1997, and John married author Susan Elizabeth Moody four years later.

Mary immediately took to the role has has groomed and educated herself further into making the most popular Princess since Princess Diana.

On May 14, 2004, the pretty brunette with the captivating smile walked down the aisle with her prince in a bridal outfit which encompassed both her Australian heritage and the history of the family she would now be joining. A gown by Danish designer Uffe Frank was topped off with a veil first used by Crown Princess Margret of Sweden in 1905. While her bouquet consisted of Australian eucalyptus - known as Snow gum - plus flowers from the palace garden.

Their first child, Prince Christian Valdemar Henri John, was born October 15, 2005, and their second, Princess Isabella Henrietta Ingrid Margrethe, followed on April 21, 2007.

Mary's grace, beauty and professionalism have won over her the people of her new homeland, with one poll finding 75 per cent of Danes believed she would make a good Queen. Mary has made numerous trips back to Australia to see her family and friends in Tasmania and Sydney...

She got the perfect look a man wants. When a Prince choose one, I bet, it's always the best.

Thanks for the insight.

Being Danish I think Princess is a asset for Denmark, she is beauful smart and the crown price loves her ,it is like a fairytale, but it is a real one

We never thought Princess Mary belonged on the cover pages of magazines, and we find her very unattractive. Long chin, unattractive smile, boyish hips, questionable past that was never monitored... the list goes on.

Lovely story. Sadly our press in the UK ignored this royal wedding despite the continental royals being a lot nicer and less stuffy than our snobby British royals (it's not just the Danish guy marrying for love, I think the Norweigan crown prince married a single mother - not something the stuck-up Windors would do).
