Scotland. Interesting facts & things about Scotland and being scottish

Scotland . Interesting facts about Scotland and being Scottish. There is a lot more to know about Scotland's than just names. I could talk about my relatives and how they marched down to Yorkshire and became involved in the War of the Roses but no Ill leave that for another time.
What I would like to talk about is all the positive things that Scotland brings to mind forget the Haggis that ghastly dish of meat served in a sheep's well u know what. . How about Golf. Scotland is the home of golf and I have done a hub on that. The Shetland Islands are consider part of Scotland but don't say that to the locals and Salted Porridge and herrings & smoked Kippers of Course and then of course there is the famous Scotch whisky call it Scotch but don't call a Scotsman's Scotch. But you can call his drink Scotch or Newcastle Brown Ales. Look there is more to Scotland than is under a mans kilt. His sporran of course The Bagpipes for instance are also a useful instrument. And if you like tartan there is a vast array of Tartans to choose from. my favourite being Black Watch. Then you have the famous people. The current UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown; who's charisma replaced that of Tony Blair and lets not forget famous poet Robert Burns...

- Scotland the home of fine Malt Whisky and Jimmy the jock
It is a disputed but proven fact that the best Malt Whisky is derived from Scotland. Another undisputed fact is we have Jimmy the Jock here on Hubpages.Jimmy the Jock has been on hubpages around the time I...
In addition to my blood relatives being Scottish originally. My late stepfather George Williamson was also Scottish or more precisely from the Shetland Islands. Although he was born there George spent most of his childhood in Aberdeen before Enlisting in the Army & eventually spending time in the Black Watch Regiment.
Most of what I remember about George should not be remembered but other things he was indeed a interesting character you could see the tough conditions he had lived in the Shetland Islands as a child really affected him. For instance he always insisted in having salt in his porridge just a customary thing I guess. But I could not stand it. And Kippers for breakfast, Say no more ! Yuck !

I am odd as I love Haggis. I love Scotland also and would love to visit again
Hi Barry
Thanks for reading my hub, thought I'd browse yours.
As an Englishman it's always good to read about the UK.
Yes there are many good things to have come out of Scotland and it's a beautiful country. I have to disagree you about Gordon Brown though, I think he is probably the worst thing!!! to come out of Scotland and should have stayed there. Him running our economy was bad enough, and now he's even trying our country, hopefully not for much longer.
