TV. One of my all time British Televison shows is The Bill.

The Bill is a long running British police procedural television series, unusual among police dramas in that its focus is on the lives and work of one shift of police officers, rather than on any particular aspect of police work.

The series, is produced by Talk-back Thames, its name originating from "Old Bill", a slang term for the police and Geoff McQueen original title for the series. It originated as a one-off drama, entitled Wooden-top in August 1983. However, ITV were impressed to the extent that they commissioned a series, which commenced in October 1984.

The Bill causes occasional controversy, particularly with its story lines. For example, a 2008 episode that featured a fictional treatment for multiple sclerosis, and another in May of the same year that resulted in litigation by MP George Galloway for defamation. The series has also faced more general criticism concerning the levels of violence it portrays, particularly prior to 2009, when it occupied a pre watershed slot.

The Bill has been broadcast in over 55 different countries

• In Australia, the series is very popular where it is shown on ABC1
• On satellite and cable in Australia and New Zealand, older episodes are broadcast on UKTV.
• In Belgium the series is broadcast on één
• In Denmark the series was retitled "Lov og Uorden" (Law and Disorder).
• The filming of the Bill came to an end in 2010.

TV. British television series Coronation Street is now the longest running television series in the world. Coronation Street is a British prime-time soap opera set in the fictional town of Weatherfield, four miles in either direction from and a suburb of the city of Manchester, England. Created by Tony Warren Coronation Street is the longest running and most watched British soap opera. Coronation Street was first broadcast on 9 December 1960 The series began on 9 December 1960 and was not initially a critical success. Granada Television commissioned only 13 episodes and some inside the company doubted the show would last its planned production run. Now 50 years on the series continues the format remains pretty much the same. Characters such as Ken Barlow remained part of the cast for decades. The show continues to be filmed.

This programme was one of my most favourites as a child living in England. Dr Who is another famous British television series that has been running since Doctor Who first appeared on BBC television at 17:15 GMT on 23 November 1963,following discussions and plans that had been in progress for a year. The Head of Drama, Sydney Newman, was mainly responsible for developing the programme. This show has become a really cult following series. Many fan clubs have been set up around the world. Toys are memorabilia from the show continue to be collected.

Dixon of Dock Green was a police television series starring Jack Warner which ran from 1956 to 1974 Beginning in 1955 and finally ending in 1976, Dixon of Dock Green was a popular series although its homeliness would later become a benchmark to measure the "realism" of police series such as Z Cars and The Bill. The series was set in a suburban police station in the East End of London and concerned uniformed police engaged with routine tasks and low-level crime

Blue Peter is the world's longest-running children's television show, having first aired in 1958. It is still running more than 4,000 programmes later.  I used to watch the shoe religiously as a child whilst growing up in England.

Not so famous as the other but one of my all time favourites is Callan

Callan is the title of a British television series set in the murky world of espionage. Originally produced by ABC Weekend Television and later Thames Television, it was aired on the ITV network over four seasons spread out between 1967 and 1972. The series starred British actor Edward Woodward as David Callan, a reluctant professional killer for a shadowy branch of the British Government's intelligence services known as 'the Section'.
