Choosing a Vacuum Cleaner

The last hundred years has seen the advent of modern technology. None more so than the provision of electrical appliances for the home. The Fridge Washing Machine and Vacuum Cleaner have become indispensible for the modern household.

Basically there are three kinds of vacuum cleaners to make household cleaning much easier. Upright and Barrel cleaners as well as Hand held. All three are useful for cleaning the home.

There are a number of reliable well known brands to choose from.
Dyson, Samsung, Volta, Bosch, Electrolux, Miele. and the traditional Hoover.

There are a number of bagless designs these days which stem from the bagless Dyson. The manufacturers claim that bagless mean they are more efficient and economical. The Dyson Brand is the most expensive of the 'non-commercial' vacuum cleaners. It has rather quirky space age looks and bright colors. It comes in both an upright and barrel type cleaner they also make an hand held vacuum also. My favourite choice of vacuum cleaner is the brand Miele;Although they don't yet make an upright the barrel models are much quieter than your average vacuum cleaners. The double casing together with a quality motor make the cleaner much quieter and more efficient and powerful than most. The only drawback with Miele are the bags and the paper ones are expensive to replace. However in my opinion I would prefer a Miele that a Dyson Bagless. They have smooth rounded design which mean they dont snag against edges when being dragged around. Also the wheels they use make for easy movement. Also they have very need tools tucked away on board which can be r easily accessed for use at any time.

The upright vacuum cleaner such as the style of the traditional Hoover is very useful when you have large flat carpeted areas. The barrel type are a little more difficult to lug around whereas a well designed upright such as the Dyson Upright makes it a breeze. The onset of fatigue sets in much sooner when you are pulling around a barrel type vacuum. The Dyson has a detatchable concetina style tube which allows you to reach up and such dust from very high places. This is very useful when you are trying to give your abode a complete spring clean. However it is rather cumbersome and difficult to put back into place. Tell me why I know I used to sell them at a major Department store here in Australia.

I often wondered just how amazing a Dyson vacuum cleaner really is. The commercials on TV make me want to run out and buy one straight away. The roller ball is a very exciting design and just seems like it would float across carpet and bare floors alike. I have never heard of the Miele vacuum, but you do present a strong argument for its use. Good vacuum review here.

Cheers~

A good discussion! I've got a Dyson, but the kind with the roller ball, and it's pretty sweet! I've dreamed of owning a Dyson for years... so I think it's fair to say that I am biased :D
